Escape Room Review

This seems like the next logical thing to review in this blog for today’s random post. I want to see this since this might work if I wanted this on DVD and get the sequel on DVD, I could get the version of this that has the extended addition that has James Frain in it to see it. That’s why I need to see this movie to better understand it and how it works, even if the recap of the beginning of the sequel spoils a lot of it. But let’s get to the review!

We begin with a random room being shown full of various things. A guy falls through the ceiling in terror as he has to find a ten digit code. He tries to get a book and see another person die to find a clock. The room is closing in on him during this time. It doesn’t seem like he can get out. And it doesn’t look like he does. It looks like he dies in the room as it crushes him to death, the fate that people in Star Wars had avoided in the end.

Going back three days earlier, a woman is in class, but is too shy to speak up. It is about to be a break for Thanksgiving. Her name is Zoey and she is told to do one thing that scares her over the break. We then see a black man talking to other people, but not much can be gathered from that yet. Later, we see what might be the man from earlier talking to a person at a store. His name is Ben. He is told to make a friend sometime outside. Back to the other man, we see a person get a box that won’t open.

Zoey doesn’t want to go to her friend’s place for Thanksgiving. There is a shaking going on that puts her on her nerves. But I can’t tell what this flashback is about yet. She bids farewell to her friend or roommate Alison and gets another box. Ben gets a box with a message as well. The three of them all try to figure the box when a message opens about Minos escape rooms.

A woman named Amanda shows up at the escape room. Michael is another person there. She is also met by other people there as six people wind up gathered in the room talking to each other preparing for the room in the waiting room. One of them men here has been in all sorts of other escape rooms before. When Ben tries to leave, the door knob comes off and a man realizes that this could be the very escape room that they are looking for.

Amanda realizes that all of the letters are addressed to the same person. The room starts to heat up at some point due to what Zoey tired to do to get out of here. Taking the fire extinguisher off makes even more of the room heat up. But it has a key leading to the woman in the waiting room which is a mannequin in a recording. This really starts to freak out Amanda as the room gets even hotter as fans start to show up. Zoey notices injuries on Amanda and everyone starts to freak out even more.

Zoey notices a clue about coasters and they push these buttons in order to get out of there. But some of them are stuck below in the meantime pushing the way out. Zoey seeks to fill cups completely full of water to open the way out. Amanda has flashbacks to combat. The other people seeks to use what water is left to keep the coasters full of liquid to get out of there in time. The room fills with fire as all of them manage to get out of there on time.

In the next room, Amanda seeks to use a snuck in phone to get out of here, but there is no signal. The escape room expert is convinced that this is still just really immersive. Ben freaks out about the message as it makes him think about a personal trauma. But he gets the code out of a lock for them to go what seems like the outside of an icy place.

Danny, the escape room expert, notices the place getting colder as he is still convinced that no one would get hurt in the end. Amanda thinks that they have to fight over limited resources. Michael finds a fishing pole after a hole is found in the room in the ice below. Zoey goes out and figures out that true north is a lie. She finds something in a stuffed bear’s mouth. It is a magnet. They find a key that is frozen in a cube. They get Ben’s lighter.

Danny falls under the ice which fell through beneath him. He is under the ice and the rest of them seek to get him out of the current that sucks him away. He dies under the ice. Ben gets blamed for this. There is a game master involved that they think could be one of the five of them.

The black guy convinces them to use their body heat to get the key out of the box. They don’t know who did this to them. Every detail was thought of. The black guy is named Jason. They find a door that they open before the five of them make it to the new room.

The new room is an upside down game room. They seemed to have gone up through an elevator. A phone falls down. The song Downtown starts to play. Amanda climbs up to a higher place. Zoey figures out that this is a giant sliding puzzle. She goes to it to figure it out. They figure out the code, but the danger continues. Zoey continues to have flashbacks to her trauma.

While a code might have been figured out and an eight ball is found, Amanda has difficulties getting to the rest of the four of them. She is able to give them the eight ball, but she falls down. The four of them leave the room to another place.

This new room is like a triage center. They find notes about all of them and they were the only survivors who went through a crisis. Zoey was on the news, which is why and how some of them recognized them. They finally learn each other’s back stories. Minos knew everything about them. Only one of them seems set to survive. The next video plays, which sure is convenient that they had this moment to themselves before the next danger presented itself. They have five minutes to escape.

Zoey seeks to destroy all of the cameras watching them as she thinks that’s the only way it will get them out of here. They want to find a way to increase the heart rate. Michael wants to get them out of there with his high heart rate. Jason wants to increase his already high heart rate. The clock runs out which fills the room with poison. But Jason uses it on his heart which gets the door to open. There is a way out of there which the rest of them want to use. She is convinced that there is another way out. She falls to the floor of the room having passed out.

Mike is now dead with Zoey possibly dead as well, for those that haven’t seen the sequel like I have. I guess we’ll see what happened with her later. Anyways, Ben blames Jason for his friend’s death that made Jason the only survivor. They go easily to the next room, but something makes it seem like they are going crazy due to things on their hand. They need to find an antidote before they leave. Ben is able to find it. But it is hard to tell what is going on for sure.

The possibly seizure inducing room makes things seem crazy and hard to understand. But it does seem like Jason is dead. This is how Ben falls into the room from the beginning of the movie. Back in room five where Zoey is, there are two people who see the two bodies. Zoey used an oxygen mask to survive and attacks these two people.

Meanwhile, Ben is able to escape his room somehow. He had escaped the final room. This is where we get to where the game master is. He is different from the puzzle maker. He talks to Ben. Zoey starts to come with a gun that she took from the people. Did luck have anything to do with his survival? He had the lowest odds to win and was the long shot. But the horse doesn’t get a prize for winning the Kentucky Derby. The game master seeks to kill Ben, but Zoey comes out to shoot this person and save Ben. With Ben’s help, the game master is killed dead. They get out of the room.

Ben is treated with Zoey being taken to a police station. They take her to where the place was, but they can’t find evidence of what he suggested. They don’t seem to believe her. There were too many drugs in Ben’s system for them to know if he could back up her story or not.

Six months later, Zoey and Ben talk. It seems like there are fake ways that the other people have died in other different realities. She can’t let the game go. She wants to lead them to a place in Manhattan. She does not want to run from the problem at hand. They want to find where to go.

On a plane that seems ready to crash and people having to find other ways through, we see that this is only a simulation going on regarding Zoey’s fear of flying. It seems that Minos is ready to go for another round and have her play again. And that’s the end of this movie.

What do I think of this movie? Well, there are obvious pros and cons. It works well as a thriller, even if it seems unrealistic in some ways. It seems convenient that there is always lull in the action from room to room for there to be some downtime to learn important things or simply talk for a bit uninterrupted before Minos goes back to trying to kill them in each room. The biggest flaw of this movie is that it could be said to be a rip-off of the well known Saw franchise to some degree. While I may never see any of the Saw franchise, its similarities can’t be overstated.

Still, I think that this is a good movie and worth seeing. Its ending leaves more to be desired and so does the ending of its sequel, depending on which ending you get. I don’t understand why extended means everything past the New York City room is different in the sequel. I don’t know how much of it I should talk about or potentially spoil. But I have to get and then watch the extended version of the sequel at some point in time to potentially blog about the different ending even though I have it set up that this blog has the least amount of random posts in it. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.

Cast Update 8-8-2022

I have no idea what there is to say as I introduce this blog post. I’m working through some of a sickness and doing more than I should be. I hope not to ruin too much for myself or miss any work in the end. But I need to get more sleep and better be prepared.

Jonny Lee Miller: It seems that he currently has only one project that I know of in the work. It is a movie called Nine Lives. I’ll keep track of anything else that I see him doing in the future. He will also be in the newest season of The Crown.

Nine Lives: This doesn’t have a release date or a trailer just yet. Despite its name, it has nothing to do with cats. It’s a science fiction movie about a team of humans having to work with clones (I think) all in outer space somewhere for some reason. This is no longer on imdb.

The Crown: This is a Netflix series. I doubt that I’ll be able to watch it ever or any time soon. It is available now. Jonny will be in the fifth season or series if you will. He will play the role of John Major. There’s not much else to say about it.

Lucy Liu: She will also be in other projects. One is called The Last Weekend in May. I have no idea when that last project would be set for. She is also set to be in Shazam! Fury of the gods. Yet another thing she is doing in the future is The Invisibles. And she’ll be in Exploding Kittens. I hope that doesn’t hurt her in anyway way, but I guess that television and some movie explosions are like that. I even wrote about that in my TV blog. One last project that she’s in for now is Strange World.

The Last Weekend in May: There is no release date for this yet. There also isn’t a trailer or even a plot. If I had to guess, a significant point of this movie relates to the end of the month of May. That might even be a good time to release this movie if they wanted to. If June 1st is a Sunday, then which weekend would the last one in May be? This is gone from imdb again.

Shazam! Fury of the gods: This is set for release on December 21, 2022. It is a sequel to the film Shazam and part of the DCEU. There is not a plot for this just yet. We’ll find out more about this in the future. I just hope that I’m able to see the first one if I like this if I see this at some point in time. There is a trailer for this that I will get into in the next cast update.

The Invisibles: There is no release date for this yet. There also is no trailer either. But there is a plot for it. A man in a failing marriage starts to disappear and finds a new world of people who have disappeared like him as well. If I had to guess, he would overcome this problem, but maybe this won’t be the case after all? It might be nice to see for just that reason and if the movie’s ending is good.

Exploding Kittens- This has no release date at the time. It does not have a trailer either. But it does have a plot: God and the devil being sent to earth in the body of housecats. I have no idea what else might happen or where this will air. People on imdb think it will be a Netflix show.

Strange World: This is set for release on November 23, 2022. It is about a family of explorers whose differences could lead to problems. There is a trailer for this that I will get into in the next cast update.

Aidan Quinn: I thought that given his limited role in the final season of Elementary that we might be seeing less of him. Well, it turns out that I was wrong. He will be doing different things. For one, he will be part of the movie Butterfly in the Typewriter that Desmond Harrington will also be in. He’ll also be in The Gettysburg Address, which I find unlikely since that already happened in the 1860s. He’ll also be in Spiked. Two more things he will be in are Food Fight and Cry from the Sea. That’s a lot of things. One last thing he is in for now is Daughter of the Bride.

Butterfly in the Typewriter: From what I understand of the plot, an author struggles to bring a story to life in this movie. I don’t know yet if it is based on a true story. It could be very Meta if you know what that means. It has no release date yet.

The Gettysburg Address: Apparently they are going to milk the whole address into a movie. This seems like a weird choice since Lincoln himself in the address said that people will little remember what they say today. There is no release date yet for this.

Spiked: This has an unknown DVD release timeframe as of now. The plot is about issues relating to a small town murder and the feud between a police chief and journalist in that town. It could be interesting, but cliché. This will be on the USA Network. It could be good if I see it. It is based on a true story. Here’s a trailer for it:

Trailer link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isJPFwQ1aYU

Thoughts on trailer: It is hard to gather as much from the trailer as I would like, but it does seem to be an interesting looking movie. I look forward to potentially seeing this and can only hope that this is interesting despite the trailer not being that detailed.

Food Fight: This has a release date of February 24, 2023. It doesn’t mention much of a plot for this just yet. There is no trailer at the moment. Thus, there is not much else that there is to say about this. What kind of food fight could this be or relate to? I guess we’ll have to see.

Cry from the Sea: This has an unknown release date at the moment. It does not have a trailer yet either. I can’t quite make sense of the plot just yet, but it appears to be about a grieving lighthouse keeper and the three people who change his life.

Daughter of the Bride: This has no release date or trailer just yet. The plot relates to the friendship of a mother and daughter that has a relationship test when a mystery man enters the picture as a fiancée.

Jon Michael Hill: He might finally be doing something, although I’m a bit unsure and not entirely clear for sure if he has a major role in it. But he is set to be in 61st Street. It is nice to finally see him in something worth covering for once.

61st Street: This is available now. It is about a high school athlete who winds up swept into the criminal justice system for some reason. We’ll probably have to find out more by seeing it for ourselves some day. There is a trailer for this now:

Trailer link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQpfF9trmi4

Thoughts on trailer: What’s the type of trailer that one could call this anyways? It seems a bit, analytical? I don’t think that’s the right word. I can’t make much out of this, but I guess that it’s supposed to be exciting, although I can’t tell why they don’t include more of the exciting parts other than just music that might not be in the final project.

John Noble: He has a lot of projects in the work, so I might as well get to mentioning all of them. One is called Silencio. Another is called Nameless. A different one is called Stream. Yet another is called Guardians of Luna. I wonder if they’ll all get made. He’s also in something new called Call Waiting. I wonder what all he’ll show up in randomly. He is doing Twilight of the Gods. And he is in Star Trek: Prodigy. He does a lot.

Silencio: This was in Mexican and not American theaters. It has a plot mentioned of someone looking for a powerful stone. It has a DVD release time frame of November 2022. I hope to review it when it is out on DVD. It might only be on blu ray and not DVD.

Nameless: This could be interesting. It has no release date or trailer just yet. The plot relates to lost souls facing struggles with their past. It seems like it could be a good film, but it is hard to tell or know yet for sure. It seems like it could be good.

Stream: In this movie, telepathy is made possible, but it could have unforeseen outcomes. This seems like a possible basic premise for Downsizing with a different element of sci-fi used instead. There is not yet a trailer and there’s no release date yet. It only lists his role as rumored, so the movie could wind up happening, but not have him in it.

Guardians of Luna: This plot might be hard to keep track of. So there are werewolves that are part of a cursed town and there’s a war on humans potentially. It has no release date yet nor a trailer. But it does sound pretty interesting.

Call Waiting: This is has no plot listed yet. It’s year of release is unknown at the time. I guess that we will find out later what will happen with this and what the plot of this short might be. Until then, I guess we’ll just wait and see what will happen with it.

Twilight of the gods: There is no known plot for this at this point in time. It is set to be a TV series of some sort. The current release date is unknown. There is no trailer yet, either. So what else is worth keeping track of here for now? Not much.

Star Trek: Prodigy: This is currently on Paramount+. There is a trailer for this that I will talk about some. It is animated and seeks to use teens in a stolen vessel to explore the galaxy. It was renewed for a second season already.

Trailer link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBE7d8sH5Rg

Thoughts on trailer: A lot of trailers are like this. They look great and make the show look great, but are also cliché and generic. Plus, I don’t know if there is some rule that says that all Star Trek TV shows are only allowed on streaming. I’m sad that we will never see this discussed in an episode of The Big Bang Theory. Anyways, this show looks like it could be interesting, but I doubt that I’ll be able to see it.

Desmond Harrington: He is set to appear in a movie called Butterfly in the Typewriter, which I’ll explain in the next paragraph. There’s not much else that he is known to be doing right now. Maybe he’ll do more in the future. I’ll wait to see what it could be.

Butterfly in the Typewriter: I can’t tell yet if this is based off of a true story or not. I do know that it is about the struggles of an author to bring a comedy story to life. It has an unknown release date at this time. I guess we’ll see what comes of it later.

James Frain: He doesn’t have any projects in the works right now that imdb is mentioned. I took out the one that was there since it isn’t there anymore. There isn’t too much else to say about him at the time so hopefully, we will be doing something at some point in time.

Robert Doherty: He is working on something, but I can’t quite understand the name of it right now. It is called Alive II. Maybe I’ll understand more of it once more info on it comes out in the future. He does not seem to have any other projects in the works right now.

Alive II: This is a TV movie. Its airdate is currently unknown. Someone is resurrected mysteriously and this man or woman is a cop. I guess that we’ll see what happens with this project later. Also note that Alive might be the title and make more sense regarding the bringing someone back from the dead angle. Doesn’t this sound a lot like FOX’s Second Chance from not too long ago?

Emily Procter: She hasn’t done much since CSI: Miami ended. She is a mom so I don’t know if that means she’d be acting less. Maybe she’ll do something at some point. But I don’t see anything that she’s doing just yet. Maybe I’ll see more later.

Khandi Alexander: While she still acts some, as recently as 2019, I couldn’t find anything of hers that was major that she’s doing right now. The most recent thing that she did was an episode of What We Do in the Shadows. I hope to see more of her in the future.

Kim Delaney: This only thing that she is doing right now is General Hospital. It is a soap that airs on ABC. I don’t know if I’ll be able to see it and review it. But I will include it in the updates for now. You might just see a review of this randomly at some point in the future.

General Hospital: This is a popular ABC soap that is very long running in a daytime show. I think that it relates to hospitals and is a drama like that in some way, shape, or form. Maybe if I see an episode, I’d know more what this is about and what makes it different than other shows like it.

Jorja Fox: While she isn’t doing anything since leaving CSI: Vegas as of yet (she does not have to at all by any means as she can retire from acting or simply do other jobs), I am going to include her in this blog now since she won’t be part of CSI: Vegas anymore.

Mel Rodriguez: I’m not sure why he left CSI: Vegas since they never gave his character much in terms of character development. I mean, he could have stayed on until there was more they could give his character other than simply being the weird ME. And it doesn’t seem like he left this for any other job at the moment (well, any other acting job that would show up on imdb), but I’ll keep track of what’s happening with him from this point forward.

Adam Rodriguez: We’ll see what all he might do in the future. Now after it was originally cancelled before it was ever made, a reboot of Criminal Minds appears to be in the future for him. Maybe this time, it will get made.

Criminal Minds: There is not much to say about this right now. There is no release date for this yet. I think that this is on Paramount+ and a new series than the previous one. We will have to see what this has to offer, although I won’t be watching even if I could see this, as in, it wasn’t on streaming.
