One Night with the King review

There is a movie worth covering for this blog that has John Nobel in it. It is about Esther from the bible and has a lot to it. I might as well put it in this blog when I watch it again. So without further ado, it is time for this review.

We begin with the start of the tale being over 500 years ago. That is an event that was sent into motion. It left some people wanting to get revenge on the Jews by killing them. That man who would be set to do that was named Haman.

But the main character of this movie is called Hadisah. She snoops in on the king’s meeting where his wife, Queen Veshibee, did not appear before him, having her own separate feast. At the urging of the character that John Nobel played, among others, this queen is deposed of, to speak, and a new queen is sought to be found in her stead.

Many women are gathered. Mordici, the uncle of Hadisah, says that she should change her name to Esther, which is a good, Babylonian name. She is taken in the night with many others to be a potential queen candidate. She tries to claim the others down that she is with.

It is during this time that she reads a report to this king during the night. She stops covering that at one point to instead tell the story of Jacob and how he wound up married to the wrong person, but ends up getting together with the right one as well. She also learns the protocol of how one should appear before the king in question. If she doesn’t appear without a summon, she could be killed.

After rejecting many of the women for various reasons, the king actually likes Esther’s simpleness and they wind up getting married. Her uncle visits and she is able to maintain some of her cover still despite him talking about it openly in front of them.

A rival leader was upset that a particular queen wasn’t chosen from. Two of his people talk about how they should have poisoned the king. He thinks that they should still try to do this. However, Mordici learns of this plan and is able to thwart it as a result.

In the meantime, Haman is up to his evil ways. He makes a speech about how the Jews are evil in his mind and should be taken out, the likes of which could have likely inspired Hitler. He arranges for what seems to be an attempted assassination of some people by “Jews” that he seemingly thwarts. As for his attempts to get rid of the Jews and Mordici, they can be described as this:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1GFSCsNABVE

Mordici refuses to bow before Haman. Mordici only bows before his king or God. Haman still plots the extinction of the Jews. Before he can, the king has a request of someone who needs to be honored. Haman thinks that the request is about him. He requests something extravagant. He learns that he is to do it for Mordici himself.

Mordici sends a message to Esther about how best to proceed. He insists that she must act or else God will ensure that someone else will rescue them instead. Esther breaks protocol by going in front of the king without being summoned. She is shown mercy and isn’t killed. She doesn’t want to make this case in front of the large crowd. She instead summons just the king and Haman to a private dinner.

At this dinner, she confronts Haman about his plans of killing Mordici and the Jews. She reveals that she is a Jew herself and puts a symbol which shows the star of David to others. Haman claims to see nothing and prepares to kill her when left alone with her. But the king returns to hang Haman instead. The people are then saved with Mordici made a new prince and a happy ending for them.

First off, I’d like to apologize because I wasn’t writing this post as well as I could have. I didn’t even have my laptop on and writing notes to the side at some points so I may have missed important things in the movie as a result.

Now I’d like to talk some about the embellishments in this movie versus what’s in the bible. It seems to work okay for this movie even as it seems to contradict some of the parts of the book of Esther. But it works for the most part and has its own way of handling things, trying to address certain issues that you wouldn’t otherwise see explained in just the bible alone. I still recommend reading the book to get the official story and just hope that it works well despite these additions.

Overall, the movie is pretty good, even though my copy of it has issues with skipping that will hopefully since it would be nice and then it would work well. I hope that you understand the point that I was making even as the previous sentence may not make sense. The movie is worth a watch and hopefully works out well for you if you can see it. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.

True to the Game Tyrik Recap

I didn’t do that good a job reviewing this movie the first time I saw it. While I’m unsure if I will ever do another version of a recap, I am pretty sure that this could be an improvement on that post. I’m only largely talking about this one character, but I might as well get this done.

We begin with Tyrik hanging out some with Quadir. Not much can be gathered at the time. He is seen at one point in a car. He is later seen with his wife or whoever that is when she is upset at an automatic machine voice operator. There is a lot in this movie that I don’t understand. He is later seen approaching Geena with an offer to get her in a car. She rejects this.

Later, when Quadir gets invited to Geena’s house for supper, he brings his wife there with him to eat there with him and Geena’s family. Later, he confronts a woman when two people are murdered. He witnesses this, but I can’t tell much if he is involved with it or not.

After this shootout, Tyrik explains to Quadir some of what happened. They killed some people in retaliation of this death. We see Tyrik at other places in this movie that I don’t have in the notes as I was bad at making them.

There is another meal that Tyrik joins Quadir and Geena with. Quadir then sends Tyrik to shoo away his ex. Tyrik does this which leaves her with the misimpression at one point that he was going to be with her. Tyrik is called to deal with people being killed at the restaurant where Quadir both works and does a lot of his gang business. (It’s a front, for sure.)

After Geena gets kidnapped, Tyrik tries to talk Quadir out of paying a ransom, thinking that Geena is likely dead or that this is a trap to get to him. He doesn’t want to take part in Quadir paying the ransom. Quadir does this to get her back.

Tyrik witnesses his wife and Quadir being killed. He takes over the gang banging business, literally, by making moves against those who killed his wife. We only hear about this last thing. We might have seen him in the sequel (which I haven’t seen and am unsure how or if I will) if Nelsen Ellis hadn’t died. That could be a plot point in it with his moves getting him killed or jailed. I don’t think that I’ll know for sure, but I can speculate without seeing it.

And that’s it for the last film role of Nelsen Ellis outside of maybe something else that’s a Netflix film that I won’t be able to see any time soon. I can’t think of much else to say in this post so I hope that this recap, which admittedly missed some of his screen time in the movie, is still good and better than my review of the movie. For now, this is Adam Decker, signing off.

Cast Update 7-10-2023

I cheated. I just want to put the truth out there. This was supposed to go up on Monday so I’m pretending that it did instead of when it really did go up. Thus, it was published late as if it was when it was supposed to be. That’s not the only problem. The post is incomplete due to time constraints. I got the new stuff done at least that was supposed to be in February’s cast update. And I have a blog post explaining the hiatus up.

http://adamdeckercsicyber.blogspot.com/2023/07/tech-explaining-blogging-hiatus.html

Here’s a paragraph worth putting in multiple blogs. I’m going to share two of these that need sharing and this is the one that needs done first. You see, even though a lot of time has passed for me to potentially see movies and other things like that for these cast updates, I haven’t seen a lot of them just yet. I’m hoping to at some point, but am unsure how or when I’ll have the time. It will hopefully happen at some point in time so bear with me as you might be glad just to have posts back at all, even though projects still haven’t been watched.

Jonny Lee Miller: It seems that he currently has only one project that I know of in the work. It is the newest season of The Crown. I don’t see anything else of his at the moment. Hopefully there will be more in the future.

The Crown: This is a Netflix series. I doubt that I’ll be able to watch it ever or any time soon. It is available now. Jonny will be in the fifth season or series if you will. He will play the role of John Major. There’s not much else to say about it.

Lucy Liu: She will be in projects. She is set to be in Shazam! Fury of the gods. Yet another thing she is doing in the future is The Invisibles. And she’ll be in Exploding Kittens. I hope that doesn’t hurt her in anyway way, but I guess that television and some movie explosions are like that. I even wrote about that in my TV blog. She’s in Strange World. She’s also set to appear in A Man in Full. More things that she will be in are Red One and Kung Fu Panda 4. Other projects that she’s set to be in are Jentry Chau versus the Underworld, Old Guy, and Protozoa.

Shazam! Fury of the gods: This is out on DVD now. It is a sequel to the film Shazam and part of the DCEU. There is not a plot for this just yet. We’ll find out more about this in the future. I just hope that I’m able to see the first one if I like this if I see this at some point in time.

Enjoy this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AxhqTdZJ_rg

The Invisibles: There is no release date for this yet. There also is no trailer either. But there is a plot for it. A man in a failing marriage starts to disappear and finds a new world of people who have disappeared like him as well. If I had to guess, he would overcome this problem, but maybe this won’t be the case after all? It might be nice to see for just that reason and if the movie’s ending is good. This is gone from imbd.

Exploding Kittens- This has a release year of 2023. It does not have a trailer either. But it does have a plot: God and the devil being sent to earth in the body of housecats. I have no idea what else might happen or where this will air. People on imdb think it will be a Netflix show.

Strange World: This is on DVD now. It is about a family of explorers whose differences could lead to problems. That seems to take place a whole lot of the time, doesn’t it? What other types of families are there?

Review: Movie Name- Strange World. Genre- animated, family, adventure. Rating- PG. Description- Years after his father abandoned him in his journey, a now adult man has to save his world from dying and finds himself in uncharted lands with others. Elementary Alumni in it- Lucy Liu is in this as one of the characters. I’m not sure which one. Pros- This is a very interesting story with interesting turns. I like the family element to it. Cons- Part of it are too odd and other parts you’ve seen before from other movies like it. Note to Parents- Parental abandonment is part of this. Aspects of divorce and things like it have come up. Most notably, one of the major characters is openly gay. Contrary to what you might have heard, while it is clearly in and part of the movie, it is not what the movie is about as the movie is about family and exploring new worlds. Recommendation- It is an enjoyable film worth watching. IMDB Ranking: 5.7. My Grade: B.

A Man in Full: There is set for release in 2023. There should be one at some point in time. It is about a mogul who has to defend his failing empire from those seeking to gain from his failure. This is set to be a miniseries. I’ll find out where later. Maybe I’ll see what it will be like.

Red One: The plot of this is being kept a secret right now for some odd reason. It is planned for release in 2023. There is no trailer. I guess we’ll have to wait to see what this may or may not be in the end. And hopefully we’ll find out sooner rather than later.

Kung Fu Panda 4: This is set for release on March 8, 2024. It doesn’t have much of a plot mentioned right now so it must best be described as the fourth installment in this franchise. I thought that the third one finished everything, but I guess that they must milk something for all its worth so here it is. This is gone from imbd.

Jentry Chau versus the Underworld: This has an unknown release date. It doesn’t have a trailer yet. It is about a teen with supernatural powers who finds out that a demon king is hunting those powers.

Old Guy: This has no release date yet or trailer. This is about an older contract killer who is pulled back into the field to train a new assassin. I’m guessing that this is a film. It could be interesting, but am unsure if there will be people to root for.

Protozoa: This is a short. It has no release date or trailer. I’m unsure of what the plot is as what is mentioned on imdb doesn’t seem to make sense at all. Maybe I’ll understand more if this gets far enough in the process to have a trailer released of it.

Aidan Quinn: I thought that given his limited role in the final season of Elementary that we might be seeing less of him. Well, it turns out that I was wrong. He will be doing different things. For one, he will be part of the movie Butterfly in the Typewriter that Desmond Harrington will also be in. He’ll also be in The Gettysburg Address, which I find unlikely since that already happened in the 1860s. Two more things he will be in are Food Fight and Cry from the Sea. That’s a lot of things. One last thing he is in for now is Daughter of the Bride.

Butterfly in the Typewriter: From what I understand of the plot, an author struggles to bring a story to life in this movie. I don’t know yet if it is based on a true story. It could be very Meta if you know what that means. It has no release date yet. This is gone from imdb.

The Gettysburg Address: Apparently they are going to milk the whole address into a movie. This seems like a weird choice since Lincoln himself in the address said that people will little remember what they say today. You can check if you don’t believe me. This has a release date of November 19, 2025.

Food Fight: This has a release date of February 24, 2024. It doesn’t mention much of a plot for this just yet. There is no trailer at the moment. Thus, there is not much else that there is to say about this. What kind of food fight could this be or relate to? I guess we’ll have to see.

Cry from the Sea: This has an unknown release date at the moment. It does not have a trailer yet either. I can’t quite make sense of the plot just yet, but it appears to be about a grieving lighthouse keeper and the three people who change his life.

Daughter of the Bride: This is out now. The plot relates to the friendship of a mother and daughter that has a relationship test when a mystery man enters the picture as a fiancée. And I’m sure you’ll see the typical clichés after that. Since I don’t think that I’ll be able to see it ever, I’m removing it from the updates.

Jon Michael Hill: He might finally be doing something, although I’m a bit unsure and not entirely clear for sure if he has a major role in it. But he is set to be in 61st Street. It is nice to finally see him in something worth covering for once. He is also set to be in A Man in Full, already covered elsewhere in this blog and now covered here as well.

61st Street: This is available now. It is about a high school athlete who winds up swept into the criminal justice system for some reason. We’ll probably have to find out more by seeing it for ourselves some day. There is a trailer for this now:

Trailer link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQpfF9trmi4

Thoughts on trailer: What’s the type of trailer that one could call this anyways? It seems a bit, analytical? I don’t think that’s the right word. I can’t make much out of this, but I guess that it’s supposed to be exciting, although I can’t tell why they don’t include more of the exciting parts other than just music that might not be in the final project.

A Man in Full: There is no release date or trailer for this yet. It is about a mogul who has to defend his failing empire from those seeking to gain from his failure. This is set to be a miniseries. I’ll find out where later. It could be good, but the plot seems overused.

John Noble: He has a lot of projects in the work, so I might as well get to mentioning all of them. One is Nameless. A different one is called Stream. Yet another is called Guardians of Luna. I wonder if they’ll all get made. He’s also in something new called Call Waiting. I wonder what all he’ll show up in randomly. He is doing Twilight of the Gods. And he is in Star Trek: Prodigy. He does a lot. He will be in the new season of Severance.

Nameless: This could be interesting. It has no release date or trailer just yet. The plot relates to lost souls facing struggles with their past. It seems like it could be a good film, but it is hard to tell or know yet for sure. It seems like it could be good.

Stream: In this movie, telepathy is made possible, but it could have unforeseen outcomes. This seems like a possible basic premise for Downsizing with a different element of sci-fi used instead. There is not yet a trailer and there’s no release date yet. It only lists his role as rumored, so the movie could wind up happening, but not have him in it.

Guardians of Luna: This plot might be hard to keep track of. So there are werewolves that are part of a cursed town and there’s a war on humans potentially. It has no release date yet nor a trailer. But it does sound pretty interesting.

Call Waiting: This is has no plot listed yet. It’s year of release is unknown at the time. I guess that we will find out later what will happen with this and what the plot of this short might be. Until then, I guess we’ll just wait and see what will happen with it.

Twilight of the gods: There is no known plot for this at this point in time. It is set to be a TV series of some sort. The current release date is unknown. There is no trailer yet, either. So what else is worth keeping track of here for now? Not much.

Star Trek: Prodigy: This is currently on Paramount+. There is a trailer for this that I will talk about some. It is animated and seeks to use teens in a stolen vessel to explore the galaxy. It was renewed for a second season already.

Trailer link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBE7d8sH5Rg

Thoughts on trailer: A lot of trailers are like this. They look great and make the show look great, but are also cliché and generic. Plus, I don’t know if there is some rule that says that all Star Trek TV shows are only allowed on streaming. I’m sad that we will never see this discussed in an episode of The Big Bang Theory. Anyways, this show looks like it could be interesting, but I doubt that I’ll be able to see it.

Severance: This is a TV show. It is out now. The plot is about a company that is trying to take work-life balance to a new level, according to the internet movie database. That involves splitting their minds into two in a way.

Desmond Harrington: He is set to appear in a movie called Butterfly in the Typewriter, which I’ll explain in the next paragraph. There’s not much else that he is known to be doing right now. Maybe he’ll do more in the future. I’ll wait to see what it could be.

Butterfly in the Typewriter: I can’t tell yet if this is based off of a true story or not. I do know that it is about the struggles of an author to bring a comedy story to life. It has an unknown release date at this time. I guess we’ll see what comes of it later. This is gone from imdb.

James Frain: He doesn’t have any projects in the works right now that imdb is mentioned. I took out the one that was there since it isn’t there anymore. There isn’t too much else to say about him at the time so hopefully, we will be doing something at some point in time.

Robert Doherty: He does not seem to have any projects in the works right now. Maybe something will come of the project that was in the updates, but I am not ready to add that back here yet as I just don’t see that as happening for sure right now, even if it is back on imdb. We’ll see what I do.

Emily Procter: She hasn’t done much since CSI: Miami ended. She is a mom so I don’t know if that means she’d be acting less. Maybe she’ll do something at some point. But I don’t see anything that she’s doing just yet. Maybe I’ll see more later.

Khandi Alexander: While she still acts some, as recently as 2019, I couldn’t find anything of hers that was major that she’s doing right now. The most recent thing that she did was an episode of What We Do in the Shadows. I hope to see more of her in the future.

Kim Delaney: She hasn’t been doing much that I can see right now. Maybe she will do more or maybe not. I can hope that she does something, but maybe this will leave me with one less person to deal with covering in this blog.

Jorja Fox: While she isn’t doing anything since leaving CSI: Vegas as of yet (she does not have to at all by any means as she can retire from acting or simply do other jobs), I am going to include her in this blog now since she won’t be part of CSI: Vegas anymore.

Mel Rodriguez: I’m not sure why he left CSI: Vegas since they never gave his character much in terms of character development. I mean, he could have stayed on until there was more they could give his character other than simply being the weird ME. And it doesn’t seem like he left this for any other job at the moment (well, any other acting job that would show up on imdb), but I’ll keep track of what’s happening with him from this point forward.

Adam Rodriguez: We’ll see what all he might do in the future. Now after it was originally cancelled before it was ever made, a reboot of Criminal Minds appears to be in the future for him. It is now called Criminal Minds: Evolution. He will also be in Scrambled. And the current last thing that he’s in is Winter Spring Summer or Fall.

Criminal Minds: Evolution: This will be on Paramount+ and a new series than the previous one, but a reboot featuring characters from the original show. It is out now on Paramount+. It is about an UnSub who used the pandemic to create serial killers. This will not at all reinforce many people’s ideas that the virus wasn’t the real problem in regards to the pandemic (sarcasm, of course). Of course, they probably have to be caught in the typical villain of the week format.

Scrambled: This is about a woman who decides to freeze her eggs. I can’t tell too much from this yet. What I do know is that this has no trailer. It is out now. I don’t know how I will see so I will just remove it from the updates. I doubt my local video store has it.

Winter Spring Summer or Fall: This has an unknown release date at the moment. It also doesn’t have a trailer. Another thing that it lacks that it should have is commas. What is up with the lack of commas? You would find it annoying if there aren’t commas that should be there right? Wouldn’t you want to I don’t know naturally pause where you should you know pause? Anyways, two teens fall in love over four days of the year in this movie that might be a remake.

Rex Linn: He is set to appear in the third season onward of Big Sky. I won’t be seeing that show again and am currently unsure if it even deserves its own section in this blog. You can read more about that in my TV blog. Here are some posts about it thus far:

https://adamdeckertv.blogspot.com/2020/12/fall-shows-2020-part-2.html

Note: I has already written the next part before the hiatus so that would explain why one part of it is outdated. I might edit it some in future posts, but it won’t matter too much. Also, while Big Sky was cancelled, I plan to still share posts about it from my TV blog in the future, as I will explain more in the next post.

Paul Guilfoyle: He has five projects in the works right now. The first is Any Day Now. The second is Arthur the King. The third is The Mothership. The fourth is Can’t Go Home. The fifth is Polara.

Any Day Now: This has no release date right now or trailer. It is about a stoner who might have stolen money, but apparently doesn’t realize that he’s done this? I’m not sure that I make sense of the potential plot just yet.

Arthur the King: Apparently having nothing to do with the King Arthur legend, this is instead about a racer adopting a dog named Arthur. It has no release date or trailer just yet. I’ll see what else it has to offer later.

The Mothership: This is set for release in 2023. It is about a woman and her kids who are looking for her missing husband after finding an alien object beneath their home. It could be good, if not obvious in some places.

Can’t Go Home- This is set for release on December 29, 2023. If I understand the plot correctly, some people are up to terrible ways and may pay the price in some way. I don’t think that I’ll get a full sense of the plot until the trailer comes out, which it hasn’t yet at the moment I first wrote this paragraph.

Polara: This has no release date or trailer. This is a movie named after a car and seems to be a coming of age drama based on potential mysteries in the past of the person’s life in addition to other, major characters.

Eric Szmanda: He doesn’t have any projects in the works right now. He last appeared in something that came out in 2020, which doesn’t feel as long ago as it was by now. Maybe he could appear in the franchise again? I don’t remember what happened to his character in universe so I guess I’ll have to see.
